In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can access endgame content once you’ve finished the main story. There are a number of new quests you can do in this content. Raifort, who teaches history, can give you a quest.
If you talk to Raifort in the Naranja/Uva Academy’s Entrance Hall, she will tell you about Shrines. After you do this, your map shows where the four Shrines are. Here is a quick Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Icerend Shrine guide to help you open one of them.
Where is the Shrine of Icerend?
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the Icerend Shrine is one of four Shrines that players can open at the end of the game. This Shrine is on a ledge along a cliff in the western part of Paldea. The symbol in the above screenshot shows you where to go to get in. When you go to this place, you will find a Yellow Gate that is locked. To open this gate, you need to find and destroy 8 Ominous Yellow Stakes in the area around it.
All 8 Ominous Yellow Stakes to Open the Icerend Shrine
Raifort, your history teacher, will tell you how the staking system works. To open a Shrine, you have to find and destroy all 8 stakes in the area. To get into the Icerend Shrine, you have to find and destroy all 8 Ominous Yellow Stakes. All of them can be found in the following places.
Go to Cascarrafa. Walk behind the gym building and head south. Here, there is a tree by a waterfall. The Dangerous Yellow Stake is behind this tree. Take down the stake.
Go to the fast-travel Pokecenter in the West Province (Area One) – North. From here, head east or southeast. You will see some old buildings. The Ominous Yellow Stake is on a ledge at the south end of the ruins. Jump up to the edge and pull the stake out of the ground.
There is a flat, grassy area to the west of the Pokemon League building. You should go here. Walk along the edge of the north cliff. There is a break in the cliff. The Dangerous Yellow Stake is in this crack. Take down the stake.
Head straight south or southeast of the door to the Icerend Shrine. You will find a big hole in the mountains here. There is a platform with an Ominous Yellow Stake on it in the middle of this hole. Drop down and break it.
This Ominous Yellow Stake is on a small ledge on the east side of the valley where my icon is on the map. It’s not too hard to get there. From the West Province (Area One) – Central Pokecenter, just head southeast. Jump down and destroy the ledge.
This Ominous Yellow Stake isn’t exactly what it seems to be. It looks like it is just along the path to the South Province (Area Six) section, but it is actually in a tunnel under the path. At the bottom of the cliffs, the entrances are on both sides of the path. The entrances I’m talking about are marked on the map with arrows. The stake is inside the tunnel; you should break it.
Go north of the place called the Leaking Tower of Paldea. This Ominous Yellow Stake is on the north side of the cliff, where you can see the path with the tunnel that we went through to find the last stake. Get there and destroy it.
Go straight east of the city of AlFornado. At some point, you’ll reach a river with a waterfall. This Ominous Yellow Stake is at the top of the waterfall, on a small ledge. Get rid of it!
Chien-Pao: How to Get Him
Once you’ve taken out all 8 of the Ominous Yellow Stakes on the list above, a short scene will play. During this cutscene, you hear the legendary Chien-cry Pao coming from the shrine, which has just opened. Before you go back, do a few things to make it easier to catch:
- Buy things like Ultra Balls to help you fight and catch.
- Bring a Pokemon that can hurt the opponent’s status.
- Bring a Pokemon with False Swipe with you.
- Try to have a group of at least 60 levels.
- Make a save.
Go back to the Icerend Shrine door when you’re ready for battle. When you get close to the door, you will be asked to interact with it. Choose “Yes” to start the fight. With False Swipe, a status effect like sleep, and Ultra Balls, it’s easy to catch Chien-Pao.
Chien-Pao is a Legendary Pokemon that is Dark and Ice. It is one of the four Legendries you can catch by opening the four shrines. See the guides for Firescourge Shrine, Grasswither Shrine, and Groundblight Shrine for help with these Pokemon. What do you think of our guide to the Scarlet and Violet Icerend Shrine?
