Apple’s long-rumored augmented and virtual reality headset is virtually complete after years of development. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that the company will reveal the device in the spring before to its annual WWDC conference in June.
Apple apparently shared the headset with a number of prominent software developers and gave them an early look at its new “xrOS” software, indicating that a launch is imminent. Gurman anticipates that after introducing “Reality Pro” in the spring, Apple would ship the device in the fall.
The last push to release the headgear will affect Apple’s 2023 product selection as a whole. Due to Apple’s reassignment of software engineers to the xrOS project, the next version of the iOS operating system is likely to release with “fewer key changes than initially planned.” “The same applies to macOS 14,” Gurman continues. The hardware plans of Apple are much less exciting.
The company has no notable improvements planned for its iPad, Apple Watch, or audio product lines. New iPad Pro models with OLED panels are forthcoming, according to Gurman, but they won’t come until 2024. He cautions that the next Apple Silicon MacPro will be “another letdown.” Due to the architecture of Apple’s M-series chipsets, it will be impossible to upgrade the desktop’s RAM.
New 15-inch MacBook Air and the iPhone 15 could be the only bright spots in an otherwise drab release timetable. Gurman claims that all iPhone 15 models will include Apple’s new Dynamic Island feature and USB-C charging. Additionally, the Pro models will include updated titanium frames and haptic volume controls.
