A week ago, we reported that Baidu, a Chinese multinational technology company, was planning to release its own version of the popular ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot. Since then, the company has confirmed to CNN that “Ernie Bot,” the name it has given to its artificial intelligence tool, will undergo its final round of internal testing in March.

In 2019, Baidu unveiled Ernie, an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven, large language model with the slogan “Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration.” The model, which will form the basis for Ernie Bot, has reportedly improved in its ability to comprehend and generate language as well as convert text into images.

Ernie Bot, as reported by those in the know, will soon be released by Baidu as a standalone app. After that, the company hopes to incorporate the tool into its own search platform. This means that users’ search queries will be answered by chatbots.

Last week, Reuters cited a source saying that Baidu intended to launch such a service in March. According to the source, the company’s long-term goal is to incorporate chatbot-generated results into the search engine as a whole, making the service available both as a separate app and as a standard feature.

Technology companies, especially those based in Silicon Valley, have been pouring money and interest into generative artificial intelligence, or AI that can generate prose or other content on command.
