According to a press statement published on Business Wire, Modern Warfare 2 has already made over $1 billion in sales since its premiere on October 28, 2022. Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 2012 set a new franchise record by selling over $1 billion in just 15 days.

After its first weekend, Modern Warfare 2’s rocket-powered start was evident, with $800 million worldwide, surpassing 2011’s Modern Warfare 3 for the biggest first weekend in Call of Duty history. Xbox’s Phil Spencer stated that despite Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard,

the Call of Duty brand will continue to exist on PlayStation platforms, thanks to the game’s record-breaking PlayStation Store launch. According to IGN, “this is sadly a weak follow-up to Modern Warfare 2019’s perfected take on a Call of Duty campaign, and an experience that is already fading in my mind.”
