ChatGPT’s Paid Version to Cost You $42 a Month

Earlier this month, OpenAI announced that it was looking into commercializing its AI chatbot ChatGPT by allowing users to sign up for beta access to “ChatGPT Professional.” Some users now claim they have been upgraded to the $42/monthly pro tier.

OpenAI has not made any statements or confirmed that this is a formal test. We have reached out to the company for comment, but in the meantime, keep in mind that ChatGPT Professional’s final features and pricing may differ from those currently advertised.

This month, OpenAI reminded users, “Please keep in mind that this is an early experimental programme that is subject to change, and we are not making paid pro access generally available at this time.”

Is there a “professional” version of ChatGPT on the horizon?

A paid version of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot that went viral at the end of last year, is reportedly being rolled out, according to some users. ChatGPT has been put to use in a wide variety of contexts since then, from essay writing and code development to legal research and text-based games.

Colleges and universities have banned it (and sometimes even encouraged it), with students either accepting or rejecting its use as part of their daily routine. It was widely known that a premium version of ChatGPT would be introduced at some point: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tweeted in December that the service would be monetized in the future.

Meanwhile, a number of users have started reporting that OpenAI now offers a $42 monthly paid plan. Twitter users have claimed that the number was briefly shared on Friday, but this has not been verified.

ChatGPT Pro, on the other hand, has been trained on a much larger and more diverse dataset, which enables it to generate text that is more human-like while also possessing a higher level of fluency and accuracy. In addition, the performance of ChatGPT Pro can be improved for particular use cases by fine-tuning it with a limited amount of data that is specific to the task at hand.

The most significant alteration, on the other hand, is that ChatGPT Pro is now offered in the form of an application programming interface (API). This enables companies and programmers to incorporate ChatGPT’s services into the software products they already produce and then sell those products to end users.

The OpenAI Foundation’s very own money printing machine?

SimilarWeb estimates that there are 75 million new users of ChatGPT each and every month. Therefore, even if only 10% of these users decide to subscribe to the premium service, OpenAI may have the potential to make $3.46 billion in revenue during its first year of operation.

At a profit margin of sixty percent, this would result in an astounding two billion dollars in profit each and every year.

The enhanced but “experimental” features of ChatGPT, as well as the cost of the plan, are subject to change depending on the individual requirements of the user as well as the agreements that have been made with OpenAI.

Conclusion

OpenAI has given the impression that the professional tier will solve the ongoing capacity problems that the service is experiencing. These problems can slow down or even completely prevent users from accessing the service during peak times.

It is not entirely clear whether or not the monthly cost of $42 will continue to be the official price of the professional, paid version of ChatGPT if and when it eventually launches. At this price, however, you may find that you need to cancel one or more streaming services in order to make room for it within your budget. Alternatively, you could simply report it as a monthly expense to the IT department of your company.
