Google might discontinue offering unlimited WhatsApp backup Storage on Google Drive Soon

Users could still upload there own chats and media files without having to select them when using the Limited Google Drive Plan for WhatsApp.

In the current version of Google Drive, Android users could really back up all of about there chat but instead media files without any limitations. According to a new report, Google may limit the amount of free storage available to Whatsapp on Android by imposing a storage quota. It has been reported by WAbetaInfo that Google may end the unlimited storage it offers to WhatsApp users for storing there own backups. To minimise backup size, the WhatsApp upgrade tracker has discovered a new feature that allows to maintain their WhatsApp chats whereas uploading on Google Drive. This shouldn’t happen because Google Drive’s storage quota doesn’t apply to WhatsApp backups. However, the presence of this feature suggests that Google is going to terminate the unlimited storage it offers to WhatsApp users.

Additionally, a screenshot of what appears to be the code for WhatsApp’s backup management feature has been shared by the publication. The screenshot is proof that WhatsApp will undergo a change in the near future. When Google Drive storage quotas run out, users will be alerted via email and/or text message.

All the evidence points to Google limiting the unlimited storage it provides WhatsApp users to store there own backups. However, there will be a free storage limit for users’ backups. When Google stops giving Android users with unlimited storage for backing up their chats, WhatsApp users may must choose the chats as well as media files they want to keep and let go of the rest.

Users could still upload there own chats and media files without having to select them when using the Limited Google Drive Plan for WhatsApp. Non-paying G Suite users already know that Google only provides 15GB of free storage. In addition, the space taken up by WhatsApp users’ backups was thrown in for free.

As of now, there is no set date or timeframe for when the limitation will be implemented, but Android users should begin preparing for severely restricted WhatsApp backups on Google Drive now that the information is out. It’s also unclear whether Google will cost WhatsApp users for offering unlimited storage.
