Google Pixel 7a Appears in A Hands-On Leak with 8 Gb Ram and A Redesigned Camera Bar.

While the Pixel 7a is likely still a few months away, leaks are revealing new information about it. This week, a hands-on leak of the Pixel 7a confirms a RAM upgrade and one of the major design changes for Google’s next budget smartphone.

Following last year’s excellent Pixel 6a, the Google Pixel 7a is anticipated to be a significant improvement over the company’s recent budget smartphones. The device will utilise Tensor G2 from the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, adopt wireless charging at 5W, and feature a significant camera upgrade with a 50MP main camera, 64MP telephoto camera, and 12MP ultrawide camera.

We have seen the Pixel 7a’s design a few times, but not in particularly high resolution.

A new hands-on leak from Zing News provides a detailed look at the Pixel 7a’s hardware, giving us a sneak peek at what’s to come.

The rear of the device bears a striking resemblance to that of the standard Pixel 7, which is hardly surprising. This year’s phone has the same updated camera bar as the Pixel 7, as opposed to the Pixel 6a’s glass-only camera module. The front of the phone has the same thicker bezels as last year’s model, indicating that the design has not changed.

In addition, the device has a single SIM slot, USB-C for charging, and some water resistance around the SIM tray.

This Pixel 7a model has 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, as revealed by accessing fastboot. The phone is apparently unable to fully turn on. This is an increase from last year’s Pixel 6a, which featured 6GB of RAM, and is on par with the Pixel 7. On its A-series devices, Google typically offers just one storage option.

Before Google locked down the device, the original owner was apparently able to confirm a 90Hz display. The report also states that the two rear cameras have a resolution of 12 megapixels, but software confirmation is not mentioned.

Google released the Pixel 6a on July 28, 2022, but the device was announced in May at Google I/O 2022. A similar schedule may be implemented this year, but nothing is set in stone as of yet. Google I/O 2023 is scheduled for May 10.
