It was announced today during a stage event commemorating the success of the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (via Crunchyroll) that season two of the anime series is in the works and will premiere in 2023.
Several voice actors from the movie and TV series, including Junya Enoki and Megumi Ogata, who play series protagonist Yuji Itadori and feature star Yuta Okkotsu, respectively, were on the panel for the major news.
Kana Hanizawa, who portrays Yuta’s companion Rika Orimoto, Yuichi Nakamura, who voices both series and feature star Satoru Gojo, and Takahiro Sakurai, who voices Suguru Geto, were present on the panel.
It was also reported that MAPPA, the animation studio responsible for the first season’s animation as well as the currently running final season of Attack On Titan, will return to animate the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen.
To commemorate the launch of the series’ second season, Jujutsu Kaisen manga writer and illustrator Gege Akutami unveiled a brand-new piece of artwork featuring Yuta Okkotsu. The special illustration was shared on the Jujutsu Kaisen anime’s official Twitter page.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Release Date
The developers of “Jujutsu Kaisen” indicated at the end of the first season that a film titled “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” will be released soon. It was also revealed that the film would cover the “Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School” precursor tale, which follows two characters named Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto.
With the announcement came a short trailer as well as a possible release date of winter 2022. But what about Season 2 of “Jujutsu Kaisen”?
During an online news conference in January, Yichi Mushiaki, president of the MBS television channel in Japan, gave fans a glimmer of optimism for the series’ future.
“At this moment, I’d ask you all to wait for us to present a solid plan,” he told Anime News Network. However, I believe we will be able to deliver a development that meets expectations.”
A few weeks after those remarks, it was formally revealed that Season 2 of “Jujutsu Kaisen” will be published in 2023. (via Crunchyroll). Although no exact date for the show’s return has been determined, fans of “Jujutsu Kaisen” can be assured that a second season is on the way.
Jujutsu Kaisen Official Trailer
What characters will appear in Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen?
The second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” will most likely have the same cast as the first, as a continuation of Season 1.
This contains Junya Enoki as Yuji, who accepts a mission to find all of Sukuna’s components, spoken by Junichi Suwabe, with the understanding that he will have to sacrifice himself in the end to defeat Sukuna.
Megumi (Yuma Uchida), a stoic sorceress who must pair up with Yuji, and Nobara (Asami Seto), a headstrong young woman who is a force in battle, are beside Yuji.
Meanwhile, Satoru (Yuichi Nakamura) is the strongest sorcerer in the area and teaches at Jujutsu High, where the three friends train.
As the universe of “Jujutsu Kaisen” develops with the new movie and future episodes, it’s almost certain that the anime will introduce new characters, whether through new Curses, new sorcerers, or just regular old humans Yuji encounters.
This opens the door for a slew of talented voice actors to join the cast of the show in the future.
What will the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen be about?
“Jujutsu Kaisen” covers Yuji’s initial contact with Sukuna and how he becomes involved with the Jujutsu School and sorcerers in Season 1.
The tale progresses through different battles pitting the show’s characters against Curses as they search for the fragments of Sukuna during the first season.
At the same time, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara face a variety of personal obstacles, including differences in techniques and beliefs, as well as the emotional impact of slaying Curses.
Yuji and Nobara vanquish the Death Paintings, two human brothers who turn into Curses, towards the end of the first season. Yuji also reconnects with Yuko, an old classmate who has a crush on him.
Given the events shown in the manga, it appears reasonable to infer that Season 2 of “Jujutsu Kaisen” will cover the “Shibuya Incident” story arc.
This film depicts a group of sorcerers led by Yuji as they fight against a well-coordinated campaign of Curses and other evil forces to eliminate those who resist them.
There is a lot of violent fighting in this tale arc, which has severe repercussions for Yuji and the others, and there are a few major losses.
This will be a major event for fans of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” with long-term implications for the series and its characters.
