According to a blog post by Facebook CEO Tom Alison, Meta is working on a method for you to view your Messenger messages within the Facebook mobile app. Facebook reports that two billion active users connect daily on its platform, and its team is working to improve how people engage in online discussions.
Alison wrote that the company is “testing the ability for users to access their Messenger inbox within the Facebook app.” Facebook intends to expand testing in the months ahead.
Messenger, which debuted in 2011 as part of Facebook’s functionality, was separated from the social media platform in 2014 and became a standalone app. It added the ability to share locations, handle voice calls, and enable peer-to-peer payments shortly thereafter.
Messenger has received numerous new features over the past decade, including encrypted chats, custom emojis, and video chats. Additionally, Facebook has been working to integrate and improve multiapp communication between Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Messenger and Instagram users can already communicate with each other via direct messaging.
Meta also claims to have had some success with community chats, a 2022 Facebook Groups conversation feature. The company intends to integrate more messaging features into Facebook to facilitate communication between users.
