Mercedes Brings Apple Dolby Atmos To Automobiles For The First Time!

Dolby Atmos sound is no longer exclusive to high-end commercial and home theater setups. Since 2021, Lucid and Mercedes-Benz have both been incorporating Dolby’s most immersive audio platform into automobiles as well. This is possible because a variety of high-end models are fitted with the necessary amount of power and speakers to fully realize the potential of the format on the road.

But now that some of its vehicles are the first non-Apple devices to provide “Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos” from Apple Music, Mercedes-Benz is bringing its in-car Dolby Atmos support to a new level. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is supporting this by forging partnerships with Apple Music and Universal Music Group (UMG) that will allow recording artists to base their song approval process on how the final mix sounds in a Mercedes car.

The final signed-off tracks will then bear the label “Approved in a Mercedes Benz.” This guarantees that Apple Music subscribers driving compatible Mercedes vehicles will hear tunes that sound just as they did when they were mixed.

The amount of Dolby Atmos audio content Mercedes-Benz customers can listen to is greatly increased by gaining access to Apple’s Spatial Audio track library. This makes it much simpler to fully utilize both the object-based Atmos format (which fills a 3D sound space with details and effects rather than merely steering sounds to different speaker channels) and the Burmester 3D and 4D speaker installations available for Mercedes Maybach S Class, Mercedes Benz S-Class, and EQE, EQE.

The Burmester 4D premium sound system incorporates no less than 31 speakers, including an enormous 18.5-liter subwoofer, eight sound transducers, six overhead 3D speakers, and four close speakers in the front. All of this is vigorously powered by two amplifiers that each output 1750 watts of power.
