Meta Increases The Price Of The Quest 2 Headset Before The Release Of ‘Project Cambria’ Successor!

On Tuesday, Meta Platforms said that it would increase the cost of its Meta Quest 2 virtual reality (VR) headset by about $100 (about Rs. 8,000) starting in August, even as the business gets ready to introduce a replacement headset later in the year.

With its relaunch in November of last year, Meta has increased its focus on VR and the metaverse. In addition to opening a physical store where customers can test the headsets, it just announced updates to its VR platform, Horizon Worlds.

Quest 2’s 128 GB and 256 GB models, according to Meta, will sell for $399.99 (approximately Rs 32,000) and $499.99 (about Rs 40,000), respectively. Additionally, several accessories and refurbished machines saw price increases.

Users have spent over $1 billion (approximately Rs. 8,000 crores) on Meta Quest apps, the company said in a statement. “We’re making a shift that will allow us to continue to invest for the long run and continue moving the VR industry ahead.”

Without providing a release date or further information on the device, Meta stated it will introduce a new high-end VR headset later this year under the codename Project Cambria.

Apple is reportedly developing its own VR gear in the meanwhile, according to sources.

To highlight how the firm is competing with rivals in the quest to make immersive experiences more realistic for humans, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled prototype virtual reality (VR) headsets last month.

Meta is creating new hardware as part of the Reality Labs division to help the VR industry overcome its ongoing difficulties.

The prototypes demonstrate how they function while also demonstrating the need for a fully functional headset that can transport users to a virtual environment that is just as lifelike as its physical equivalent.

The Quest 2 is Meta’s most recent commercial VR headset at the moment. However, that model does not incorporate the improvements and services that the Menlo Park, California-based startup intends to incorporate to improve its VR products.

Thus, the ongoing prototyping is probably going to contribute to the creation of improved hardware shortly.
