Miss Scarlet and The Duke is a Rachael New-created British-Irish period crime drama starring Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin as a pair of Victorian detectives.
This fall, PBS will air a mystery series with a splash of romance. In October 2022, the second season of the Victorian detective series Miss Scarlet and The Duke will air.
More mysteries await London’s first female detective, as well as the chance of a romance between her and her old friend (and sometimes investigation colleague) William “The Duke” Wellington, according to the first teaser for the upcoming episodes.
Miss Scarlet and the Duke About?
Miss Scarlet and the Duke follows the feisty Miss Scarlet (Kate Phillips) as she embarks on a journey to become the first female private investigator when her father unexpectedly dies.
She snoops on the cases her childhood buddy, William “The Duke” Wellington, a police investigator, is working on locating cases and customers.
Eliza Scarlet, like Remington Steele, understands that changing the sign on her father’s detective firm from Mr. to Miss will result in a slew of new clients, so she keeps her father’s name on the door.
In October, the second season will premiere.
A+E Networks International was the first to air the show. The project was cancelled by A+E after the first season, but supporters shouldn’t be concerned. Masterpiece confirmed in March 2021 that the programme would be renewed for a second season, and subsequently revealed that filming had commenced. Masterpiece and Element 8 Entertainment are currently working together on the production.
The second season of Masterpiece PBS will begin on Sunday, October 16 at 8 p.m. EST. Along with the announcement of the second season’s release date, the programme also debuted a first teaser, which you can see in its entirety above.
In the interim, you may watch the first season of Miss Scarlet and The Duke on Amazon Prime or PBS.org if you’re a member.
What actors are returning for season two of Miss Scarlet and the Duke?
For season two, Downton Abbey’s Kevin Doyle, Outlander star Andrew Gower, and Irish actress Cathy Belton will reprise their respective roles, alongside Downton Abbey’s Kevin Doyle, Outlander star Andrew Gower, and Jamestown’s Stuart Martin. There could even be some new faces!
What occurred in Miss Scarlet and the Duke’s first season?
Eliza Scarlet is in a pickle in the first season of Miss Scarlet and the Duke: her father has died abruptly, leaving her without any financial stability. In 19th century England, unmarried women have limited options, and Eliza isn’t interested in a marriage of convenience.
She intends to take over her late father’s detective firm since she is independent and opinionated. She enlists the help of William, a childhood friend and Scotland Yard Detective Inspector, for case leads. She grabs some cases from his office since he refuses to help her. Eliza’s sleuthing talents impress William, who is first enraged.
What to Expect in The Second Season
In the six-part mystery, the teaser suggests additional love tension between Eliza and William. What about the actors, though? Stars Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin give us some wonderful insights and inside knowledge about the new season thanks to a fantastic interview on Masterpiece PBS.
“Eliza is still carving her own as a private detective, and as much as she wants him in her life, her profession is still at the forefront,” Kate Phillips says of Eliza’s relationship with William.
Eliza is also “still in the process of proving herself to the world,” and she isn’t going to let anything stand in her way. Including the Duke.”
Season 2 is also “witty, bouncy, and romantic,” according to her. Romantic and witty? Is anyone else looking forward to Season 2? More hand touches, romantic sparks, and swoony moments are what I’m hoping for.
