The upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4 by Capcom looks like it could be the best remake of a video game ever. Over the past few years, there have been more remakes of old titles than ever before. Just in the last year, remakes like Dead Space, Like a Dragon: Ishin, The Last of Us Part I, Destroy All Humans! 2, and a few others have already come out. And while many of these remakes have been quite well-received, Resident Evil 4 is already rising above the pack in a major way.
A few days ago, reviews of Resident Evil 4 started showing up on the internet, and all of them say that the game is great. Currently, RE4 holds a staggering 93/100 aggregate score on Metacritic. If you don’t count Nintendo’s remaster of Metroid Prime, this makes Resident Evil 4 the best-reviewed game of the year so far. It also puts RE4 in a good position to become the best-scoring remake ever.
If you only look at Metacritic, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which was released by Nintendo in 2011, is the only other remake that has a higher score than Resident Evil 4. It has a score of 94/100. RE4 has been praised by critics more than other remakes like Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and even Resident Evil 2, which was made by Capcom. Since more reviews of Resident Evil 4 are sure to come out after the game comes out, there’s a chance that the game’s Metacritic score could end up matching or beating that of Ocarina of Time 3D. Even if Resident Evil 4 doesn’t beat this number, it’s clear that it’s going to be another big hit for Capcom, nearly 20 years after the first game came out.
Resident Evil 4 is coming out at the end of this week, on March 24th, if you weren’t already counting down the days. It will be playable on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC when it comes out. You can read our review of the game right here before it comes out.
