Disney+ subscribers can now watch Ryan Reynolds’ Academy Award-nominated action comedy Free Guy, about a video game character who defies his programming. Despite its critical and commercial success in theaters last year, the film will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in the fall of 2021, giving it a wide window for sales to slow down before it reaches a subscription streaming service, where Disney+ users can watch the movie at no additional cost.

Before the film’s release, director Shawn Levy had said that the film’s success was in large part dependent on how well Reynolds was able to serve as the “engine.”
“Yeah. It’s true that you get all these secret weapons if you’re lucky enough to direct Ryan Reynolds in a leading role, as I previously stated. The truth is that Ryan’s taste in music is a little out there, a little weird, a little inspired,” Levy said. The Mariah Carey song or a deep cut from the 1950s or 1960s, Ryan will ask, ‘Is this a strange idea and should we try this song?'” Ryan said. To sum up, Ryan taught me to never say no, at least give it a whirl; eight out of ten times, it will end up in the film.
