History of The Star Wars Day

Creating the “Star Wars” universe has been a monumental task. Because of its enormous impact and popularity in popular culture, it is difficult to imagine a time when “Star Wars” did not exist. Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune” was the catalyst for all of this. Due to the striking resemblances between the two stories and the characters they feature, this novel was widely regarded as a major inspiration for George Lucas’s “Star Wars.

” That George Lucas chose to set his story in space at a time when the sci-fi genre in Hollywood was all but dead (in 1977) is a testament to his audacity. A lot of people didn’t expect “Star Wars” to be so successful when it was first released. It had a limited theatrical release and was expected to fail at the box office because of a production budget of just $9.5 million. This sci-fi epic was doomed to failure. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, the film’s release was renamed “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” on May 25, 1977.

It was thanks to word of mouth and raving reviews that “Star Wars” soared to fame and changed the entire landscape of cinema, leaving studios bewildered. Han Solo, Yoda, Chewbacca, and the darkest villain of all time, Darth Vader, were all introduced to the world in the Skywalker saga. The first “Star Wars” film raked in more than $100 million by the end of the summer, winning six Academy Awards and a Special Achievement Award for groundbreaking special effects. Small-scale figures and sets were used by George Lucas to create advanced effects and to film impressive space sequences, even though the film had a limited budget and was made in the 1980s.
