Tall Photos On Instagram Will Soon Be Tested for Full Screen Reels Compatibility!

The Verge stated that in a week or two, Instagram will start testing ultra-tall 9:16 images.

Instagram, a platform for sharing photos and videos, may have put an end to its contentious overhaul, but that doesn’t mean the business will stop emphasizing full-screen content.

According to The Verge, CEO Adam Mosseri said that Instagram will start testing ultra-tall 9:16 photographs “in a week or two” at the weekly Ask Me Anything session.

“Tall images are not allowed on Instagram, but tall videos are permitted. We thus considered if we should ensure that we treat both equally “explained Mosseri.

When displaying vertical photographs that have been cropped appropriately, Instagram currently maxes out around 4:5. But by adding support for 9:16 photos, which are taller and narrower, they will be able to fill the entire screen when you browse through the app’s feed.

According to The Verge, some photographers have slammed Instagram’s revamp, which is akin to TikTok, for requiring all photographs to be awkwardly displayed in a 9:16 frame.

Additionally, the new feed added overlay gradients to the bottom of posts to make the text easier to read. But that ran counter to how photographers’ work had originally appeared.

Mosseri repeatedly acknowledged that the full-screen experience wasn’t the best for photographs while Instagram was testing its wobbly overhaul with users.

Now, according to The Verge, Instagram still aims to exhibit that ultra-tall photo experience, but without requiring it for all users.
