Christopher Keyser developed the mystery adolescent drama The Society, which premiered on Netflix on May 10th, 2019.
Among the cast are Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Olivia DeJonge, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jose Julian, and Toby Wallace.
The season finale of Netflix’s YA drama The Society left viewers begging for more after finally learning what had happened to the West Ham kids. There will be more tears to shed, though, since Netflix has canceled the second season of The Society.
Recap Of Season 1 Of ‘The Society’
To summarise, this show follows a group of high school students as they experience a supernatural turn of events they weren’t expecting. Due to the fact that they couldn’t get to their location, they returned home instead of going on a field trip.
The strange thing was that when they got back home, they found their whole village vacant. It’s up to them to figure out what’s going on and get by with the current state of affairs.
Release Date of The Society’s Season 2
Despite the fact that the show was scheduled to premiere in late 2020, Netflix has officially canceled it. The hope is that Netflix may reconsider some of the shows they had to cancel during the crisis and bring them back once things are back to normal.
The chances of anything like this happening are very low. The concept of a Dexter ninth season was mocked only a few weeks ago, but now that one is on the way, everything seems conceivable.
What Happened to ‘The Society?’
As a result of the COVID-19 incident, manufacturing was temporarily suspended. Even the actors indicated that they were getting ready to go back to work. The COVID scenario, on the other hand, may have driven up production costs, causing Netflix to change its mind.
There will be no further seasons of The Society, Netflix confirmed to Deadline.
I Am Not Okay With This creator, including Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; The Society creators Chris Keyser, Marc Webb, and Pavlina Hatoupis; and the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world are grateful to us for these difficult decisions.”Uncertainty about production schedules and scheduling conflicts with a huge ensemble like The Society, along with unforeseen budget hikes owing to COVID led to a decision on The Society,” Deadline explains in its report.
The Society’s Season 2 Synopsis
However, given where the story ended up, it’s easy to see the story taking viewers if Netflix had opted to continue with The Society. There was no official description for The Society season 2 before its termination.
It was late in the game that the pupils realized they were in a parallel universe to the one they had left behind. A memorial to the fallen young adults offered a glimpse of the realm without the children and young adults it once housed.
Season 2 of The Society seems to be centered on three main themes. West Ham is taking measures to find out where their missing children have ended up and the causes for their interdimensional adventure.
It will be interesting to see what happens, but for the time being, Netflix subscribers may enjoy the first season.
A Call For The Show to be Renewed
Fans and cast members alike were unimpressed with the performance. In the wake of the revelation, approximately 130,000 people have signed a Change.org petition to keep the program going, proving that The Society has a committed following.
In addition to signing the petition herself, Kathryn Newton promoted it on her social media accounts. Save the Society made her happy, so she joined the petition and tweeted, “Hehe #TheSociety so much love!”
