Samsung appears to have polished its flagship designs and build quality to the point that the corporation can concentrate more on improving the software experience and quality-of-life.
The premier Android smartphone manufacturer revealed the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ on February 1 at Unpacked. And despite the fact that the new phones appear to be made from the same cloth as the devices from 2022, they include numerous significant enhancements wrapped in a more simple style.
Here are some of the top features or reasons why the Galaxy S23 and S23+ may be the best non-Ultra Galaxy S models to date. Certainly the primary reasons why we’re falling in love with these two phones so quickly.
Incredible Performance Thanks to Faster Storage and A Tight-Knit Qualcomm Partnership
For the first time in history, a new Galaxy S series is no longer separated by market-specific chip sets. Samsung collaborated with Qualcomm to implement the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 “for Galaxy” chipset universally, giving every Galaxy S23 purchaser the same experience regardless of location.
In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, particularly the one utilised by the Galaxy S23 series, is a beast. The chipset outperforms benchmarks and offers a high level of performance while extending battery life. Samsung employs an overclocked version of the SoC with higher primary CPU and GPU rates and has provided the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ with larger vapour chambers for enhanced cooling.
In addition to the new Samsung-exclusive chipset, the Galaxy S23 and S23+ feature quicker UFS 4.0 storage, allowing for faster file transfer speeds. However, UFS 4.0 is not supported by the 128GB Galaxy S23 base model.
Outstanding Colour Fidelity and Peak Brightness Potential
Even while the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ displays don’t have the best peak brightness in the market (they’re almost there), Samsung’s improved Vision Booster technology, launched this year, makes them stunningly bright and colour correct in all lighting conditions. Vision Booster evaluates environmental brightness levels and remaps the image’s tone to maintain the same level of colour accuracy regardless of the lighting conditions.
Displays on both the Galaxy S23 and S23+ can achieve maximum brightness levels of 1,750 nits. This is nothing new for the Galaxy S23+, but for the Galaxy S23, considering the S22’s maximum brightness of 1,300 nits, it is a significant improvement.
Undoubtedly, the HDR10+, finely-tuned Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens with up to a 120Hz refresh rate are one of the nicest features of the latest flagship phones.
Better Cameras with More Capable Recording Features
Except for a 2MP boost in the front-facing camera, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ have not gotten a significant camera pixel count update over the S22. Neither have they gotten the new 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor from Samsung. That one was intended for the Galaxy S23 Ultra alone.
However, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ steal a few camera features from the Ultra model, particularly with regard to video capture. They can now record 8K videos at 30 frames per second without as much cropping and with improved image stabilisation. In addition, the selfie camera on the Galaxy S23 and S23+ supports HDR10+ video recording.
Great Firmware and Unmatched Support
Samsung’s new Galaxy S23 flagships will launch with an updated version of One UI. It’s still based on Android 13, but One UI 5.1 adds numerous significant enhancements to the already-excellent One UI 5.0 upgrade.
One UI 5.1 brings improved multi-window support for Samsung DeX, Camera app enhancements, a new shared family album to the Gallery app, more ways to configure the phone, Scene-specific wallpapers, and several small design enhancements.
In addition, the Galaxy S23 series will support four significant OS upgrades. And because they all utilise the same chipset, Samsung is likely to provide the finest firmware support available. And that’s saying a lot given that Samsung already controls the Android firmware upgrade market.
Some of The Most Durable, Non-Rugged Smartphones out There
The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are among the most durable non-rugged smartphones money can buy, regardless of manufacturer. And this great build quality provides piece of mind, particularly for devices that have evolved into pocket personal computers with a relatively hefty price tag compared to what the Android market offered a decade ago.
The sturdy metal frame and flat shape make them less prone to harm from accidental drops, and the most recent Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection makes them even more durable. As usual, these phones are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, so they should be able to withstand dusty surroundings and brief submersion in water without trouble.
Samsung has not yet closed the pre-order window for the Galaxy S23, but it will on February 17. In addition, if you want to purchase one of these flagships, you may wish to pre-order to receive additional perks.
