Woman asks AI to write email to airline after flight delay, people find it ‘awesome’

Since its release at the end of 2017, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been a hot topic. The chatbot is programmed to provide conversational responses to user inquiries. The site’s stated mission is to eradicate the need for users to compose and send electronic correspondence of any kind, including but not limited to emails, letters, academic essays, and even examinations.

After a flight was delayed by more than six hours, a woman used ChatGPT to compose an email complaining to the airline.

The client, identified as Cherie Luo (@cherie.brooke), requested that ChatGPT compose an email to the airline in which she would be polite but passive aggressive and firm. She claimed that she waited three hours on the priority pass lounge’s waitlist but was still denied entry despite the fact that her flight had been delayed for six hours with no explanation.

A fourth joked, “Then the airline instructed their ChatGPT to respond to you.” A fifth described them as “polite but passive-aggressive and firm.” Quite remarkable, wouldn’t you say?

Only a third of a decent email, this one was pretty emotional about the passenger’s struggle to use their “priority pass” in the lounge.

The lack of communication and failure to provide access to the lounge as promised is completely unacceptable, ChatGPT said. “| understand that delays can happen due to unforeseen circumstances,” ChatGPT wrote.

An airline of your calibre owes its customers better service, and I look forward to seeing how you deal with delays and prioritise your customers in the future.
