A 66-year-old woman hiker encountered more than scenic views on her trek along the Hidden Valley Trail near Murrieta, California, yesterday.
Rattlesnake activity is on the rise as spring progresses, and this hiker found herself on the receiving end of a rattler’s warning.
The incident, reported at 10:27 am on April 29th, involved the woman being bitten on the lower leg by a rattlesnake while hiking about half a mile past the trailhead. Thankfully, she was able to reach a safe location and fellow hikers called for help.
Swift Response Ensures Hiker’s Safety
The Riverside County Fire Department responded promptly, reaching the woman and administering first aid on the scene.
Given the urgency of the situation, a REACH air ambulance was dispatched to transport the victim to the nearest hospital.
TheRiverside County Fire Department reported that the woman was airlifted to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar within minutes and in stable condition.
