At 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, an unknown person approached the victim from behind in a building on East 34th Street near Church Avenue in East Flatbush, according to police. Then, he grabbed hold of the bag she was carrying. The woman fought back, but the thief was able to grab her bag and throw her to the ground, according to the police.
The woman’s back and legs were bruised, so paramedics took her to Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. The woman’s purse contained around $80 in cash, credit cards, and identification documents.
Her attacker was last seen heading north on Church Ave. cops said. In the event that anyone recognises the suspect, police have released surveillance footage of him fleeing the scene.
He was wearing a green bubble coat, black pants, a surgical mask, and sunglasses. He could have been white or Hispanic. It can be seen on the video that the suspect pushed the woman to the ground for refusing to give up her purse before making off with it.
The elderly woman fell and hit her head, requiring emergency medical attention at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. According to police, the bag thief was last seen donning a black surgical mask, a blue hooded sweatshirt, and a camouflage coat.
A 76-year-old Pelham Bay woman was attacked by three teenagers less than 12 hours later as she walked home from a night of dancing on Roberts Avenue near Hobart Avenue, according to police.
