On April 17th, 1954, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Roderick George Toombs was born. He was expelled from school as a child for carrying a switchblade in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After a falling out with his father, a CN Rail Police officer, Roderick decided to leave home.

Later, while working for local gyms and making friends with several professional wrestlers, he stayed in various youth hostels. Cam Connor, a former NHL player, taught him how to play the bagpipes during these early years.

Even Hulk Hogan, Piper’s former adversary in the ring, came forward to send his condolences.

TMZ reported that he said so “I will miss him forever. He was the closest person I ever had a friendship with. He’s a legend. Our loss is God’s gain. “May his family be comforted during this difficult time.”

Until his death, Piper was married to Kitty Jo Dittrich, with whom he had four children. An Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Joe Lavine has directed the A&E biopic ‘Rowdy Roddy Piper: Biography,’ which will air at 8/7c April 25 on A&E and chronicle Piper’s life and career.
