Samsung is rumored to be planning to release the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 before the end of July. This is because the market for folding phones is heating up.
SamMobile says that Samsung is planning an Unpacked event for “the final week” of July 2023, most likely between July 25 and July 27. All three times are close to when Samsung usually holds launch events, but what’s interesting about this is that it’s happening way ahead of schedule.
Last year, Samsung held a launch event for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 on August 10, which is more than two weeks after this suggested date for the 2023 event. By the end of the month, the two phones had started to ship.
It’s easy to see why Samsung is trying to move things along a little faster. Google is getting ready to show off the Pixel Fold at Google I/O next month before it comes out in June. OnePlus will also show off its first folding phone in Q3 (likely in July or August since that’s how the company usually does things).
Samsung’s decision to bring the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 forward to July keeps the company close to these releases instead of trying to keep up with all of them.
At its next Unpacked event, Samsung will also show off the Galaxy Watch 6 with a new chip, a new line of Galaxy Tab S9 laptops, new earbuds, and the second version of its Galaxy SmartTag tracker.
