Netflix is launching two additional benefits for its premium users only: spatial audio support for the streaming platform’s 700 most popular titles and an increase from four to six download devices. Both new capabilities, which were announced in a press release, are now accessible worldwide at no additional cost to premium-tier Netflix users who pay $19.99 per month for 4K HDR and other advantages.

Netflix released the feature for a limited amount of its original content in July of last year. Now, spatial audio will be available across 700 titles, including The Watcher, Wednesday, and Glass Onion: Knives Out Mystery, and will be added to newly released titles, such as You, Your Place or Mine, Luther: The Fallen Sun, and Tour de France. Simply type “spatial audio” into Netflix’s search box to obtain a complete list of titles currently available for viewing with spatial audio.

Spatial audio is a feature that emulates immersive surround sound through stereo speakers or headphones on a variety of devices, such as TVs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, without the need for specialised audio equipment. Spatial audio is unlikely to help users who already have access to multichannel surround sound systems, but it should be an enhancement for those without professional audio equipment.

Netflix has provided the following recommendations for optimally consuming spatial audio material.

Premium tier users can now download Netflix material on two extra devices, bringing the total number of downloadable devices to six. “As people are more connected than ever through many devices, we’ve discovered through research that members would appreciate the ability to download Netflix series and films to watch offline on more devices, especially when travelling and switching gadgets,” said Netflix.
