Xiaomi released its Redmi Note 12 series in October of last year, but the company isn’t done with it yet. It just announced the Redmi Note 12 Turbo, which is the latest addition to the series. Even though it’s a clear upper-middle-range phone, Xiaomi gave it a little something extra with a special Harry Potter edition made in partnership with Warner Bros.
In terms of features, the phone is pretty good. It runs on the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset, which has a CPU that is 50% faster than its predecessor and a GPU that is more powerful and more efficient.
The chip should be able to compete with many cheap Android phones. The Note 12 Turbo also comes in different ways, but you can get up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of storage.
The display is a 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate that can be changed and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. On the back, there is a 64MP triple camera setup with an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro lens.
The lights stay on thanks to a 5,000mAh battery that supports 67W wired fast charging. This is a far cry from the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition, which supports 210W charging. The phone also has a headphone jack, an IR blaster, and a fingerprint sensor on the side. Out of the box, it runs MIUI 14 (Android 13).
Overall, the phone looks almost the same as the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and other phones in the same line. But there is no longer a “camera island,” where each lens stuck out from the body on its own.
It comes in Xinghai Blue, Carbon Black, and Ice Feather White, among other colors. But the new Harry Potter Edition is by far the most exciting.
The phone comes in a special box with a bunch of accessories with a Harry Potter theme. This comes with a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts, a pin for Platform 9 3/4, a case, stickers, and a phone manual that looks like the Marauder’s Map.
The back of the phone has a Harry Potter design, and the software has some extra features, like a custom boot animation, wallpapers, and themes.
The Harry Potter Edition phone does come at an interesting time for the franchise, what with the success of Hogwarts Legacy and all the talk about author J.K. Rowling. Rowling has caused fans to have mixed feelings.
Still, the Harry Potter series is very popular, and there are probably a lot of fans who would buy a phone with a Harry Potter theme.
The Redmi Note 12 Turbo Harry Potter Edition only comes with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage. It costs CNY 2,399 (opens in new tab) and can be bought in China. Depending on how they are set up, the prices for the other Note 12 Turbo models range from CNY 1,999 to CNY 2,599. For now, there is no work being done on prices or availability in other countries.
