After allegedly fleeing a traffic stop in a stolen truck, three men crashed and ran from the vehicle, leading police to arrest them. Vehicle theft, two counts of fleeing and eluding a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, and obstruction of a peace officer are the charges brought against D’Amonta Barber, 23, of Joliet. The police say he was the car’s driver.

Both 22-year-old Plainfield resident Isiah Requena and 24-year-old Richton Park resident Sean Bates have been charged with obstructing a peace officer. As a result of posting I-bonds (also known as “personal recognisance bonds”), they were both freed.

On Saturday afternoon at around 3 o’clock, officers from the Joliet Police Department reportedly found a Dodge Ram pickup truck that had been reported stolen out of Bolingbrook earlier that day. The officers tried to pull the car over near the intersection of Essington and Fiday roads.

According to a press release, police decided not to pursue the vehicle “due to the reckless manner in which the driver was operating the truck.” An instant later, the car went down at the intersection of Northeast Frontage Road and Fiday Road.

After realising that several people had run from the car, police deployed a drone and a K9 to look for them. Barber, Requena, and Bates were ultimately apprehended by police in a neighbourhood to the northeast of the crash scene.

According to the arrest report, Barber was the vehicle’s driver and found with Alprazolam pills. After receiving treatment for their minor injuries, all three suspects were taken to the Joliet Police Department.

A stolen 9mm handgun was also located and recovered by the police. Though the circumstances surrounding Lambert’s handgun possession are still being investigated, he has been charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and misdemeanour resisting. The passenger was arrested for unlawful possession of ammunition and misdemeanour trespass to a motor vehicle.

The second incident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. on December 26 when a mall police officer saw a white Maserati Levante SUV pull into a parking spot near Entrance 2 without a front licence plate.

There was a theft report on file for that car on September 18 in Chicago, according to the check of the registration. A commercial burglary in Wheeling, Indiana, on December 23 and another in Highland, Indiana, on December 24 were just two of the alleged incidents in which the vehicle was used, according to the police.

Nearly three hours after the car was parked, police used surveillance footage to identify two people seen exiting the vehicle as the perpetrators. The suspects were reportedly located in the mall’s lower level concourse at 4:20 p.m., and police officers subsequently approached them. It was later revealed that the man, later named Orlando Murray, 34, of Riverdale, resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. The arrest of the woman went off without a hitch.

The uninvolved woman claimed to police that Murray had picked her up in the stolen car to take her and her four children (aged 18 to 4) shopping and that she had no idea the car was stolen. The children could not be located in the shopping centre by police. At around 4:45 p.m., they were recorded leaving the mall in a rideshare.

Police say Murray has declined to cooperate with them. Murray had just been released from Pinckneyville Correctional Center, where he had been serving an eight-year sentence for burglary until late August. According to the records of the Illinois Department of Corrections, he had two prior burglary convictions in 2008 and 2012.

A female driver was cited for causing an accident.

On December 22 at around 1 p.m., a woman from Woodridge, Illinois, age 21, was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and failing to report damage after she allegedly fled the scene after her car collided with The Sweet Spot at 2531 Desplaines Ave. in North Riverside.

The driver was tracked down by the police in an alley between 26th Street and Park Avenue. She was out in the cold without a coat despite having a few cuts and scrapes on her face. She allegedly admitted to being in a collision, saying that she had turned onto northbound Desplaines Avenue from westbound 26th Street, but she could not explain how she lost control of the vehicle. The police report that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision.
