Before Google launches its premium Pixel series again, a long time will pass. We have Pixel 7a leaks to keep us over until then. The most recent hints come from abroad and feature a peek at the phone itself as well as a suggestion as to what kind of specifications it might have. The upcoming midrange Pixel from Google might have more RAM and a faster refresh rate than the one it replaces.

This information was obtained from the Vietnamese website Zing News, which claims to have obtained a “test” Pixel 7a intended “for programmers.” However, our ears are alert. It will have been a year since the Pixel 6a was introduced in around four months.

The hardware in the article resembles the Pixel A-series from the previous generation right down to the rear camera bar. It has a 6.1-inch display, appears to be made of “high-end” materials, and includes a few more matte details than the previous generation.

According to reports, Google purportedly remotely locked down this specific purported Pixel 7a. Zing News can only be launched in Android’s fast boot mode, which is similar to Windows computers’ BIOS modes in that it shows device specifications without requiring access to the OS itself. This menu made it clear that the Pixel 7a might have 8GB of RAM instead of the 6GB it had in the previous generation.

The Pixel 7a unit’s owner, who gave Zing News access to it, claims the settings panel also offered an improved 90Hz refresh rate option for the display. This increase in memory might be necessary to sustain that refresh rate and provide a more seamless user experience. The fact that the Pixel 6a, even at its price point, doesn’t offer a refresh rate similar to Samsung’s A-series, with some versions offering 120Hz refresh rates, is one of the main criticisms of the device.

Nevertheless, the alleged Pixel 7a specifications shown here are in line with what we anticipated. Like the Pixel 6a, it still boasts two 12-MP cameras on the back, but one of them has a regular lens and the other a wide-angle lens. There is proof that the Pixel 6a’s IP67 certification made it water-resistant.

But, we still require information on battery size and charging capacity. It will be fascinating to see if the Pixel 7a can sustain that kind of longevity while pumping out more frames. The Pixel 6a’s 60Hz refresh rate helped it with battery life.

There have been several Pixel 7a leaks before this one. A Pixel-like smartphone has passed through the FCC, though some people are hoping it’s for a foldable rather than a mid-range handset. Whatever the case, more information should become available by Google I/O, when the firm will unveil its newest mid-range product.
