Apple will cancel or delay mass production of the planned iPhone SE 4 for 2024, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted today. Kuo predicts Apple may delay or scrap the gadget due to consistently lower-than-anticipated shipments of midrange and entry-level smartphones such as the iPhone SE 3, iPhone 13 mini, and iPhone 14 Plus.

Apple may need to “reconsider the product positioning and return on investment” for the iPhone SE 4, according to Kuo, because the full-screen design it has in mind for the iPhone SE 4 will demand higher costs and selling prices. Kuo predicts that reducing superfluous product development expenditures will assist Apple in navigating the “challenges of the global economic slump in 2023.”

Multiple speculations have stated that Apple is developing a successor version of the iPhone SE, with a 2024 release date. Apple is creating a handset that may resemble the iPhone XR, with an all-display design that eliminates the Touch ID Home button in favour of Face ID or a Touch ID power button.

According to rumours, the iPhone SE 4 could sport a 6.1-inch LCD or OLED display with a notch similar to the current iPhone 14 models. Apple’s plans for the iPhone SE 4 have not been completed, and Apple analyst Ross Young stated earlier this year that the company had not decided between an OLED and LCD display for the smartphone.

Apple cancelled the 5.4-inch iPhone series as a result of poor sales of the mini-sized iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, and speculations suggest that the more cheap iPhone 14 Plus has also seen lower-than-anticipated sales. Apple might instead concentrate on its flagship iPhones in 2023 and 2024, delaying iPhone SE development or opting for cheaper components that will allow for a lower price point than the planned design modifications.
