Fearless Fox is the name of a new trademark application that has been submitted by Team Cherry, the developer responsible for the Metroidvania hit Hollow Knight. This action may indicate that the studio is working on a new game with this name.
The video game development studio Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, Australia, submitted an application for a Class 9 trademark on February 21st, 2019, listing the title “Fearless Fox” as “computer game software.” If we were to send our memories back to that point in time, we would find that it was only a week after the initial announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
It is understandable that something as unremarkable as an Australian trademark would only cause a minimal amount of commotion in the news cycle given the magnitude of the announcement that was just made. On the other hand, we recently came across another trademark application that included the name Fearless Fox.
Towards the end of the previous month, it was reported by NME that members of Team Cherry were seen in IP Australia, which is the trademark body for the Australian Government.
On the 27th of January, 2023, Team Cherry submitted a request to have its initial Class 9 trademark for Fearless Fox expanded to cover more than just ‘computer game software’ by adding a Class 42 trademark to the registration. The Class 42 trademark covers virtually everything that has to do with the planning and programming of the item that is being protected by the trademark.
Then, on January 31st, 2023, Team Cherry submitted trademark applications for Fearless Fox in Classes 28 and 41. Class 28 included goods related to toys, while Class 41 included applications related to entertainment services.
When one considers all of these trademarks, it is difficult to view Fearless Fox as anything other than a new video game. Having said that, Team Cherry has not yet acknowledged publicly the existence of Fearless Fox nor has it disclosed what the product actually is.
We are fortunate to have Hollow Knight: Silksong to look forward to in the interim as we wait for the studio to make an announcement regarding Fearless Fox. It has been established that the much-anticipated sequel will be available for purchase at some point during the first half of this year, despite the fact that the game does not yet have a specific date for when it will be made available to the public.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be available on day one for Xbox Game Pass, but unlike its predecessor, it will not be an Xbox exclusive. Team Cherry has stated that the game will be made available on all current-generation and next-generation platforms. For my part, I simply cannot wait!
