MediaTek Helio G36 SoC for Budget Smartphones Introduced

These days, there seems to be a swarm of mobile chipset makers working on game-focused processors for budget and midrange smartphones. Multiple options in MediaTek’s Helio G series can handle the workload of casual mobile gamers. The company’s earlier offerings in this market were the Helio G25 and the Helio G35 SoC. MediaTek has followed up the Helio P35, another powerful gaming chipset for inexpensive Android phones, with the Helio G36.

Helio G36 will have an octa-core cluster of CPUs, the same as Helio G35 and Helio G37. Even so, the processor’s cores are ARM Cortex-A53, which can reach clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz. IMG Electric GE8320, the same GPU found in the G36 SoC’s predecessor, is also present in the G36 SoC. The Helio G36 is a powerful and efficient mobile processor, with CPU and GPU efficiency on par with the MediaTek Helio G35 and Helio G37.

The TSMC 12nm process allows the Helio G36 to have eight Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.2GHz. The GPU is an IMG Power VR GE8320, and it also has media technology from MediaTek called HyperEngine 2.0 Lite for gaming.

The new chipset includes a newer version of the Resource Management Engine to guarantee consistent performance. Networking Engine 2.0, meanwhile, provides instantaneous responses and improved connectivity for reliable service delivery.

Up to Full High Definition Plus (FHD+) displays at 90 hertz are supported by the Helio G36. Optically, it’s compatible with up to two 13-megapixel lenses or a single 50-megapixel sensor. Bokeh effects, MEMA 3DNR, multi-frame noise reduction, and other hardware-based photography features are all included in the SoC. It can record video in 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.

The new Helio chipset, however, shines in terms of its performance. The HyperEngine 2.0, included in this product, not only manages the workload of the CPU and GPU to ensure longer gameplay sessions, but also provides consistent performance from the system’s native cores.

Despite being built with older technology, the Helio G series of chips have made a good impression over the years, and we anticipate phones to receive incremental performance upgrades catered towards casual mobile gamers. Several popular smartphone manufacturers, including Redmi, Realme, Techno, and others, are likely to work with MediaTek in 2023 to release devices powered by this new chipset.
