Tens of thousands of users were temporarily locked out of Spotify, the music streaming platform owned by Spotify Technology SA, on Thursday before services appeared to have returned online.

The Twitter account Spotify Status, which reports on the service’s health, recently tweeted, “Everything’s looking much better now.”

More than 41,000 Spotify users complained on Downdetector.com that they were experiencing difficulties with the service at its peak, the second such outage in less than two weeks.

Downdetector reported fewer than 2,000 outages as Spotify gradually began to come back online.

Earlier this month, Spotify experienced a brief outage that impacted over 45,000 users in the United States at its peak. On Wednesday, millions of people around the world were affected by a network outage that brought down Microsoft’s cloud platform and services like Teams and Outlook. Meta Platforms Inc’s social media apps were also briefly affected.

There seems to be a widespread Spotify outage, though not everyone is affected. A large number of reports of Spotify outages began coming in around 10 a.m. PT, according to data collected by Downdetector. Users have reported issues with loading the app and streaming content, including music, audiobooks, and podcasts.

Some Spotify users have reported receiving a “firewall” error message from the desktop app, while others have reported receiving a “gateway” error message from the mobile app. Significantly, this is Spotify’s second outage in as many weeks. For more than two hours on January 13, many users couldn’t access Spotify for reasons that were never explained.

On Wednesday, November 30th, eligible Spotify users will be able to access their 2022 Wrapped hub on the mobile app (for iOS and Android) for a truly individualised experience. To learn more, visit spotify.com/wrapped.

Some of last year’s most popular additions to Wrapped are back again this year, such as the ability to view a user’s most listened to artists, genres, songs, podcasts, and total listening time. For 2022, Spotify has added the following features:

Wrapped will tell you which of Spotify’s 16 “Listening Personality” types you most closely align with based on your listening habits in 2022.

Expanded Listen to Your Musicians’ Messages: About a hundred artists expressed their appreciation in 2021’s Wrapped. This year, Spotify has increased that number to over 40,000 artists, including Swift, Eilish, Balvin, Pusha T, Shania Twain, and Mneskin. Eligible fans will receive a personalised video feed in 2022 containing thank-you messages from some of their favourite artists, with each video being followed by the fan’s most-listened song from that artist in 2021.

Audio Day is a narrative experience that tracks your changing musical tastes over the course of a day.

Wrapped on Spotify will not only feature curated playlists, but also merch from your favourite bands and information on upcoming concerts.

The scope of possible collaborations expands: This year, followers can send their Wrapped cards via WhatsApp and Line, get a customised Snapchat lens based on their “Listening Personality,” and get their hands on Wrapped-themed clothing for Bitmoji. Spotify is also introducing unique GIFs with a Wrapped theme to all of their Giphy integrations.

Joint development of Roblox: In the online game platform, the Spotify Island mainland will get a Wrapped takeover with quests, games, virtual merch and photo booths with artists including Bizarrap, Black Sherif, CRO, Doechii, Eslabon Armado, Miranda Lambert, NIKI, Stray Kids, SUNMI and Tove Lo.

In addition, Spotify has introduced the Wrapped creator experience for musicians and podcast hosts, offering creators their own Wrapped microsites from which they can learn more about their audiences’ listening habits in 2018.
