More pricing information for the next Galaxy S23 series has emerged, this time for South Korea, Samsung’s home market. And the news is a little mixed. The leak indicates that the Galaxy S23 series will be slightly more expensive than the Galaxy S22 at launch, but not as much as prior speculations predicted.

The base Galaxy S23 with 256GB and 512GB of storage would cost 1,155,000 won ($931) and 1,276,000 won ($1,029), respectively, according to a leaked document (via @GaryeonHan).

The Galaxy S23+ with 256GB and 512GB of storage will cost $1,091 and $1,189, respectively. Last but not least, the premium Galaxy S23 Ultra will cost buyers 1,290 dollars for the 256GB device and 1,388 dollars for the 512GB model.

In South Korea, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S2 Ultra were released last year with prices of 999,900, 1,199,000, and 1,452,000 won, respectively. (USD at the current exchange rate)

The Galaxy S23 series may or may not cost more in other markets

Given the current economic climate, the unfortunate reality is that nearly everything has become more expensive in recent years. In the case of Samsung, the purported higher prices for the Galaxy S23 series in Korea are the result of growing inflation and higher component costs.

However, it is important to note that the Galaxy S22 was a bit of an outlier. In fact, the Galaxy S20 was initially more expensive than the Galaxy S23. A few of years back, the base Galaxy S20 model was released at 1,250,000 won. So, in the broad scheme of things, you could conclude that the Galaxy S lineup has not been more expensive since a few years ago.

Moreover, even if the Galaxy S23 costs more than the S22 at launch, this rise in price may not be universal. The Galaxy S23 range may be more expensive in regions such as South Korea and Australia. However, reported prices for the United States suggest that the 2017 flagship series will be priced similarly to last year. The Galaxy S23 could start at $799 in the United States.

Some markets may experience a price hike, while others may not; nevertheless, nothing is certain at this time. The Galaxy S23 range will be unveiled by Samsung at Unpacked on 1 February. Remember that you can reserve the phone online and receive $50 in Samsung Credit till then.
