He began his professional career in 2011 and spent all of those years with the Chicago Bulls. After spending 2017 and 2018 with the Minnesota Timberwolves, 2018 and 2019 with the Philadelphia 76ers, and 2019 with the Miami Heat, he is currently a member of the latter team (2019- present). During his rookie year with the Chicago Bulls, Jimmy struggled to see significant playing time due to the strength of the team. His dedication to training and dedication to the team as a whole blew the minds of his coaches. His rookie season was cut short by the lockout, and he played in 42 games.

Butler became the third player in Heat history after LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to score at least 45 points, dish out five assists, and grab five boards in a playoff game.
