According to a study that was published by UBS on Wednesday, ChatGPT, the popular chatbot that was developed by OpenAI, is estimated to have reached 100 million monthly active users in January, just two months after it was launched. This makes it the fastest-growing consumer application in the history of the world.

According to the report, which cited data from the analytics firm Similarweb, the number of unique visitors who used ChatGPT each day in January averaged approximately 13 million, which was more than double the levels seen in December.

UBS analysts wrote in the note that they were unable to recall a faster growth in a consumer internet app in the 20 years that they had been following the internet space.

According to the findings from Sensor Tower, it took TikTok approximately nine months after its global launch to reach 100 million users, while it took Instagram approximately two and a half years.

In response to a variety of prompts, ChatGPT is capable of writing articles, essays, jokes, and even poetry. Late in November, a private company called OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft Corporation, made it freely accessible to the general public.

OpenAI made the announcement on Thursday that it would begin offering a monthly subscription for $20, initially limited to users in the United States. According to the company, it would also provide a more stable and faster service in addition to the opportunity to try out new features before anyone else.

Analysts are of the opinion that the successful viral launch of ChatGPT will provide OpenAI with a first-mover advantage over other AI companies. While the increasing usage has caused OpenAI to incur significant additional computing costs, it has also provided valuable feedback that has assisted in the training of the chatbot’s responses.

The company stated that the revenue from the subscriptions would help cover the cost of the computing. The accessibility of the tool has led to concerns regarding the facilitation of academic dishonesty and the dissemination of false information.
